Herbert Lusby
Army Service
Herbert Lusby pictured left in the uniform of the
East Riding of Yorkshire Yeomanry. He joined the
East Riding Yeomanry as a volunteer in 1st Dec
1914 but was discharged as medically unfit on
14th May 1915 – 165 days service. For more

Early Life
Herbert Lusby was born at Tickton, near Beverley.
He was employed by a Mr Dixon, Burton Constable
as a Groom.
Police Service
Herbert served in the East Riding Constabulary as follows:
- Extra Constable at Withernsea 29th July 1915-20th May 1916.
- Extra constable at Beverley 19th June 1916-28 February 1917
- No. 148 Rank Constable 1st March 1917-31st January 1923, North
Hunsley: Beverley
His record states "His total service was 7 years 5 months 4 days. His conduct
and character during this period were exemplary. His special qualifications for
employment are that he is accustomed to the care & management of horses
and is a good motor car driver and can do
running repairs."
Married Life in Beverley
While Herbert served in the East Riding Constabulary, he lived in the Sessions
House at New Walk. Immediately behind the Sessions House was the Convent
of the Sisters of Mercy where Annie Kelly lived.
Herbert Lusby and Annie Kelly married in Ireland in 1920 but they continued to
live on Norfolk St. Beverley until they moved to Ireland in 1923.
