Mullinasole, in Irish -  Mullan na Saile-  meaning
Hilltop of Salt , is located in South-west Donegal in
district of Laghy and the parish of Drumhome.

Gildeas of Mullinasole and Ballyshannon
The earliest Gildea in the family tree is Edward c1810-1875. Edward married Mary
? and had nine children at Mullinasole. Two of his sons followed his trade and
became stonemasons in Balyshannon.Joseph Gildea 1863-1916 married Mary
Ann Ward 1890-1942 and had eleven children in Ballyshannon. His daughter
Anne married Denis
McAdorey in Ballymena.
Meaning of the Gildea Name
.Gil" (Giolla)  means "servant" and thus we have
"Gilla-de" (Gildea, Gilday, Kilday) "servant of God".

The Gildea Bros were stonemasons on the
Sheil Hospital in Ballyshannon built 1894
There were 25 families living in Mullinasole in 1901. Most were farmers or farm
labourers apart from a grocer, a shopkeeper and fish-dealer and tailor. Only one
family was not Roman Catholic.
